Dejounte Murray: “Kawhi is part of the reason I made the defensive team in my second year. He told me, ‘Don’t worry about trying to get 15-20 points, go make the all-defensive team. I guarantee you – defense gets you on the court, and if you are on the floor, you will have to play offense too.’”

I would have loved to see what Pop could have done with the team had Kawhi stayed. They would have been a destination for many freeagents over the years.

Monotone Kawhi being a better mentor for a young budding PG than Tony Parker. Who woulda thought

Someone tell RJ Barrett to make the all defensive team before it’s too late

i really like havin this guy on our squad. hope he stays

I love how easy Kawhi makes it sound. Board man gets paid in college, then become historically great defender, then make a historically great leap from bad shooter to fantastic shooter, simultaneously turn into one of the greatest isolation scorer ever.. Now why didn’t I think of doing that?..

My motto has always been …offense will get you on the floor, defense will keep you on the floor.

I don’t believe that kawhi ever said that many words at one time

Now if only he could recapture that mentality and stop letting guys blow by him while gambling for steals. You have a long wingspan and quick feet, if you sit down in a stance with your arms out no guard would get around you. Guess I’m asking for too much for former all defensive guard to play defense

That’s kinda wild that in 2018 he only averaged 21.5 minutes per game and still managed to make the Defensive 2nd team.

He’s right. Ben Simmons still gets minutes.

Yeah. I mean, this is pretty much what coaches pull their hair out preaching over and over again throughout all stages of these guys’ careers.

I’ve never heard a coach say “Don’t worry about D, green light for everyone”, despite how some NBA teams appear to play at times.

  12. This is close to the most words Kawhi has spoken in one day.

Tony Allen wondering why he didn’t get to score more points in his career

  14. Every young player should really be following this no matter how offensively gifted.

Somebody told Thybulle this and he took it too much to heart

  16. I refuse to believe that Kawhi spoke that much.

  17. Instantcoffees

That’s how Kawhi himself got started as well.

I’m pretty casual when it comes to basketball, but it feels like you have to be an offensive star to get drafted and on the court, then shift to defense when you make it to the show. Is that wrong? Are there defensive players that are well scouted out of college? Genuinely clueless and curious.

No way he said that many words consecutively
